Your Academic Auntie Microfund

A small contribution of around €150 (up to €200 in exceptional cases) to help cover one specific academic cost for early-career researchers working in under-resourced contexts.

What it covers

  • conference registration

  • travel costs (partial)

  • open-access or publication fees

  • language editing

  • visa & administrative costs

  • software or data access

  • childcare costs during conference

.

Who can apply
PhD students and postdocs up to five years after their PhD, based at under-resourced institutions or in low- and middle-income countries.
Priority is given to applicants with greater financial need and limited access to institutional support.

How it works
Applications are reviewed every four months. A small number of awards may be made per cycle, each up to €150 (up to €200 in exceptional cases). Not all applications can be supported. This is a small, personal initiative, not an institution or scholarship programme.

Accountability
Applicants may be asked to provide brief supporting evidence of need (e.g., conference acceptance or fee information). After the award is used, a short confirmation may also be requested (e.g., a receipt or note). This is not a condition of payment, but helps keep the fund transparent and accountable.

Applications: OPEN

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. For the initial launch, the first review will exceptionally take place on 31 May 2026. After this, reviews will follow a regular schedule on 30 April, 31 August, and 31 December each year.
